As a healthcare assistant, its upsetting to see such negative attitudes towards the care of the elderly in this nursing home. Such a fabulous, modern, warm and comfortable top class building. After a visit there i could see the staff were so pleasant and patient. The ladies i visited were comfortable and happy there. And they commented how lovely staff are there. Its plain to see, all the uproar is about not having enough staff. If there's not enough staff, then everyone who works there is under pressure.
My Aunt is a resident there. I have to say she loves it. The place is always very clean. The staff are very friendly and attentive. She is very pleased to be living there. What more could you ask for.
The Most horrible people to work for I wouldn’t recommend any taxi service working for them They booked me on the 8-Sep-2025 to take one of the residents in a wheelchair to Portlaoise hospital, when I got to the hospital they asked me to go back to the for payment of €14 fare. I went back to the Residency and was asked to provide a formal invoice The said that they can’t accept a taxi print out invoice. I gave the invoice to them and the told me the would-pay me at the end of the month for a €14 taxi fare. It’s 2 months now since I picked up the fare and still haven’t been paid my €14
After watching the RTE investigation I would suggest that "Concentration Camp" is a better description of this establishment. The management should resign, hang their heads in shame and get out of the health care profession. Shame on you.
I am extremely disappointed with the level of care provided at Portlaoise Nursing Home after watching RTE investigates . The ongoing staff shortages are deeply concerning and clearly affect the well-being of the residents. From what I have observed, there simply aren't enough trained carers on duty at any given time to provide even the most basic level of attention that elderly residents deserve. Many residents are left waiting far too long for assistance with essential needs — whether it's help with mobility, hygiene, or even just someone to talk to. Staff seem overworked and rushed, often appearing stressed or inattentive, This is not just a staffing issue — it's a serious failure in providing dignified care to some of the most vulnerable people in our community. The home presents itself as a place of comfort and safety, but the reality behind closed doors is different. Family members deserve transparency and accountability, especially when entrusting a facility with the care of a loved one. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend Portlaoise Nursing Home based on what I’ve seen.
