My mother has been living at The Four Ferns in Foxrock for the last 3 years and I’ve been consistently impressed by the level of care she receives. The team of carers and nurses have shown a genuine understanding of dementia and a real ability to connect with her. I’ve often seen staff speak to her with warmth and affection that clearly reaches her, even on days when communication can be difficult. They handle the emotional and social challenges of dementia with patience, gentleness and real skill, which has made a huge difference to her comfort and wellbeing. The nursing care is competent and attentive, and the environment itself is friendly, clean, calm and well looked-after. My mother also benefits from the activities and stimulation provided, which help give structure and moments of enjoyment to her days. Overall, I’ve found The Four Ferns to be a compassionate and professional place, and I’m grateful for the care my mother receives there. I would happily recommend it to other families looking for supportive dementia care.
When I first experienced Four Ferns, I felt the atmosphere wasn’t quite right and management didn’t seem attentive to staff. However, I’m truly impressed with the transformation that has taken place. The new management genuinely listens, supports the team, and creates a positive environment for both staff and residents. The caregivers are compassionate, empathetic, and committed to providing excellent care. There are also plenty of engaging activities that bring joy and enrichment to the residents’ daily lives. Four Ferns has grown into a place where staff can thrive and residents feel at home.
My mum is in The Four Ferns for the past 3 years. It is a fabulous care home. Immediately you walk in the door you are hit by how beautiful the building is. At the reception in the stunning foyer, you meet the wonderful and always very busy receptionists, Maureen, Sandra, and Mary. Then up on mums floor, all the staff are so so kind, always smiling and always helping. Today was a special Carnival Day! It was amazing and great fun with singing and dancing, a huge choice of delicious food prepared and served by Virtue’s Executive Chef and Nutritionist, Andrew, along with Four Ferns excellent Head Chef Johnny. Thank you everyone in Four Ferns for your exceptional care of my mum. Mum continues to thrive and be very happy in the Four Ferns. I highly recommend the Four Ferns for anyone looking for the best care for their loved one.
My husband, with dementia, had to be admitted to Four Ferns due to an emergency and I can’t find fault with this amazing caring facility. Ever member of staff .. from reception to personal care staff spoke and dealt with us in the most carding, professional manner … in fact I’d say ‘ with love’ Thank you SO much everyone on floor 1 you are all stars… and I’ll go into the future knowing I have a safe environment for my husband should we need long term residential care. Thank you sincerely.
This place is all about appearances. We were promised all sorts for my nana's care; hairdresser, function room, we could bring her out in her wheelchair, lots of activities to keep her occupied etc. She never got any of it. Most times when visiting, we'd learn she had been sitting in her chair alone in her room all day, with not even the TV on. We would often find her still in bed in the afternoon, as nobody had bothered to help her get out and dressed. Regularly whoever was visiting would have to go looking for staff, often unsuccessfully, just to ask for a sandwich or cup of tea for her, or even to use the toilet. The most care she got was the day she passed away. Utter disgrace of a nursing home. No communication with family, we'd have to call repeatedly for updated information that was supposed to be sent and to find out if what was requested for my nana had in fact been done. We found the majority of the staff unfortunately to not care about the job and she had a terrible experience. Unfortunately we had no choice as the original nursing home she was resident in, which was wonderful and my nana absolutely loved, had closed down. At the time, this was our only option and it was horrendous.
