The level of care given to my Mum by all the staff at farranlea was outstanding. Mum was so happy there and we were always made very welcome. In her final days the compassion and kindness given was beyond compare and greatly appreciated.

They have a dreadful, incompetent, and troublesome accounts department and other failings. I was sent a bill invoice going back two years for thousands after my mother died. They helped my mother set up a regular debit out of my mother's bank account which I set up for her, but the care home did not pursue the first three months after she initially came into the care home, but only regular debits thereafter. I queried this and the acting director, when she there.. could give no explanation whatsoever despite sending me a letter demanding payment. I said I am not strictly liable having no contract with them, and said to them they had two years to pursue the matter either with my mother who was capable of doing her own banking, or letting me know that there was a problem with prior balances. As far as the staff goes it's a lucky bag between very good staff and incompetent staff. But even some of the good staff are poor at following up with relatives and rely too much on relatives and try to get you to do transport when they should be doing it. There are three wheelchair vehicles out side the front door and they are rarely used from what I see and always claiming about staff shortages if they needed an excuse for any transport issues. One ward administrator not a agency worker, was so out of her depth and power tripping at the same time that a Christmas trip organized with my mother was completely spoiled. She had no info whatsoever about the arrangement and was calling the taxi diver to confirm what was already confirmed and arranged and could not seem to handle what was going on. She then decided we could spend a less agreed to amount of time out of the home than what was agreed. So, you can see their inability to pass on crucial information is a problem, or removed unsuitable people. Then, I had to give my mother's sister address to the nurses several times because the would not write it on her file and it was phone call after phone call when they needed it. I had to insist that it be written down somewhere as I was not going to give it again. I had enough of their laziness. They have a few agency staff from time to time and they may not have a clue about the client profile, so there is a big learning curb and they're could be big mistakes. My mother had a big unexplained fall from a wheelchair and cracked her shoulder. The incompetent ward administrator called south doc, which is not an emergency service and not the ambulance as my mother struggled in terrible pain. South doc did not come. Some of the smaller gardens haven't be attended or trimmed for years, lots of overgrown stuff and grotty at the time of writing, reducing quality of life for the patients. They had a problem too with patients smoking and effecting others as smoke filled the hallways, but recently clamped down somewhat. I also had to follow up on things like hearing aid maintenance and make complaints. She was a very long time waiting for a suitable wheelchair despite having one leg and an occupational therapist who only worked their part time and kept telling my mother it was coming until I complained to the HSE. This was my experience as a relative of a resident of Farrenlea Nursing Care Unit, Farrenlea Road, Wilton, Cork T12 E959

The best nursing in Ireland or England and probably Europe as this is the sixth home my wife has been in and by far the best there is.
