Our lovely mum spent her last year of life in the wonderful care of Dargle Valley Nursing Home. Going down that route was such a hard decision to make and we visited many Nursing homes in search of somewhere that felt right. So many looked like a cross between a fancy hotel and a hospital but were cold, clinical and seemed to have endless rules. The minute I walked through the doors of Dargle Valley, I knew this was it. As hard as the decision was to make, not once in that year did we have cause to regret our choice. As Nicola said to me I could go back to simply being her daughter knowing she had the care she needed. The staff are so loving towards all the residents at all times, and so hugely welcoming to their visitors. My mum adored her garden so to be able to sit in her room with the door open on a summers day and watch squirrels and birds hopping around on her step was a huge source of joy to her. Between mums family and friends, we could write chapter and verse on the many acts of care and kindness that we witnessed that we know do not happen elsewhere. Having experienced other Nursing Homes in parallel with mum's experience has only reinforced our feeling that Dargle Valley stands out for all the right reasons. As a family, we'll be forever grateful to all the Dargle Valley staff for the gift of that last and very special year, for taking away our stress and worry and allowing us to simply love her, for all the extra miles they went too, for minding us as well as her and for the exceptional care, kindness and dignity they afforded her (and us) throughout her time there and in particular during her final days, ...again through recent personal experience we know that the care at this time was way and above the normal...to the degree that even our funeral director commented to me about how special a place Dargle Valley is and that we were blessed to have found it. The greatest gift we can ask for regarding the care of our loved ones in old age is that they are cared for with love, compassion and dignity alongside best clinical care practices. Nicola and her staff minded my dad and all of us for the three shorts weeks he was in Dargle. I can't praise them enough. True nursing care is not about fancy furniture or profit margins - it is seeing the person and giving them comfort and support. Thank you x
